My account was locked on weekend while I'm doing a transfer to a different bank. Then on the phone for an hour trying to navigate security questions and in queues where I am forced to listen to their chipper self-promotion. Give up. Decide to go into a branch this morning, only to find a long queue and two people serving one customer and ignoring the rest. Great I'm now in a physical call-centre queue. Gave up. Go back on the phone and finally get through after a long time on hold, asked many security questions and then have to be transferred to security team, but I am disconnected while on hold. I ring back, and go through the same security questions but this time because I say I have an "everyday account" that my pay goes into rather than "savings account", the obnoxious customer service person ignores the whole series of questions I answered correctly establishing my ID and says I will have to call back because I couldn't "name the account". I refuse to end the call and demand to speak to a supervisor. I am put on hold. Then the same person returns, says he "understands it is frustrating but they have to ask these questions" and repeats the same questions I am unable to answer., which is not about my DOB, full name, the account number, BSB, original branch I opened account, the amount of money I have regularly coming in or out of my account, the last transaction I made or amount that I tried to transfer and the date when it was blocked. Oh no, none of that was sufficient information about me. It all hinged on what I do with the account. Saying it was for savings and that I pay mortgage with it and other things and it is a personal account was not sufficient. After an hour, I am finally transferred to a security team, who go through exactly the same questions and then tell me that they blocked the transfer I had legitimately made because it was to a bank that is only online. Hmmm so it seems that NAB have decided to screw around the customers of this other bank's online service so that they will find it too difficult to use. Oh and they kept asking why I would want to set up an account with that other bank. Really?! You can't think of one single reason why I as a customer might want to spread the risk of having all my money with one bank, or have to deal with pedantic call operators, or have to stand in line at bank branches - if you can find one near you - or have a bank arbitrarily decide your transaction wasn't warranted and then interrogate your reasons.
