ISO or MP4?

My question is, in the case of a DVD9 or DVD5 file would the download be the original untouched VIDEO_TS or ISO file(s) or a “transcoded” MP4. I would only be interested in the former

You cannot stream DVDs

You can stream regular videos in the browser on the website after "transcoding" but not DVDs. I don't know why the "transcode" option is available for DVD's since you literally can't do anything after the DVD is "transcoded". You can't even view it in the browser.

Not really the same

There are no downloads. You choose a video or DVD you want to see and the system converts it to an MP4 that you have to view on the site in your web browser. Content is the same but that's about it.

Amazing. Looks like it's streaming only now though (no downloads). Perhaps as a result of the legal issues.

Looks like the site mentioned below has all the old content. The user interface is not as good yet but I think the content is the same.

The .is domain isn’t new

To be clear the .is website was not new. That domain always existed alongside the .net domain. Although the fact that the .is is no longer resolving doesn’t look good

@Jimmie Hopefully they are migrating over to a new site or alternate site in hqcollect.is. I do find it a little strange that they are asking for your email address. I'd rather just check the website periodically over the next few month rather than give out my email, to make sure everything is legit. I'm guessing the website should be up and running by Christmas 2023.

Seems encouraging

They seem to have been migrating from hqcollect.net to hqcollect.is over the last few months for some reason.
I would have assumed they already had the email addresses for their active members already so would inform them. Might be this is just a way to tell people to not lose hope?

Interesting new message when you go to the website. I guess they are changing their domain, etc.
"Site is under reconstruction. Please leave your email to get updates. You will be notified when new site is back online."

Looks like hqcollect.net is completely gone (no ping from the server any more). The Hqcollect.is server still pings though.

How Do Other Sites Get Away With It?

The thing I don’t understand is if it’s this easy to take down a website why isn’t it done more. There are much more well known websites posting copyrighted material and yet they continue. I thought it was hard to do but reading this case history the plaintiffs didn’t have to do much and it was quick. It seems like all this company does is go after websites but they’re ones I’ve mostly never heard of.

I don't get it

If the site was apparently shutdown from court order why was it working again last week? This site was actually accessible for several hours before going down again. This situation really is bizarre

@edward difference is that except for hqcollect is those sites/servers were shut down. Hqcollects server still pings back. They wouldn't continue to pay for server fees if they didn't see a resurgence. I still don't understand why a copyright claim would equal to a site takedown. According to the posted docket it's a temporary takedown aka restraining order.

Good quality

It's not just how extensive the library is but the quality of the files. The 1080p videos are typically at the same bitrate as the original from the sites they come from. Most other places compress them to a lower bitrate to save space.

There are no better substitutes. No other site has such extensive collection.
I remember using hqcollect few years ago and it was down for a week or so, before coming back so hopefully same thing will happen.

Down but not out?

Since it's possible to ping the server, I think it's probably a denial of service attack of some sort. But it might take them a week or two to solve the security issues. If they came back for a few hours, it probably means they are fighting the attack but don't have sufficient resources at the moment.

I really hope this is temporary

This is just my luck. It always happens like this for me. I discover this site and love it because I’m always trying to find old videos and they have a huge collection. This site is up for years and I discover it and a month later it’s over. That huge collection going to waste is terrible. Stop new videos but let them show the old stuff. Many of those companies aren’t even in business anymore and good complete copies of those videos can’t be found anywhere. Another of my favorite sites was down for 3 weeks and returned so I hope this is like that.

Why did it come back up for a few hrs?

The weird thing is it was down for a couple days and then it came back up for a few hours about 2 days ago and everything seemed okay but then it was down again. It seems like it came back up just to take my money since it was time to renew my subscription. Stupidly I did it thinking everything was fine now. I paid and a few hours later it was down again.

MH, yes RARBG was very good - I'm using Torrent Galaxy now though not the same quality.

Jimmie, I take your point about HQ regarding maximising the revenue on their existing content, but it doesn't seem very hopeful does it?

Can't Access Website

I have not been able to access the website, or support for 3 days. I think "big brother" is beginning to shutdown all filesharing sights like these. RARBG shutdown for good a couple of weeks ago. It was a fun ride while it lasted.

Website still down

Exactly the same for me Jimmie!....web pages were loading increasingly intermitterntly then just stopped. I have raised tickets in the past and they do answer...albeit fairly vaguely. I tried to send them an email 3 days ago but it bounced back. It does seem like they are either having issues or they have finished.....watch this space!!! :(

Website down since a few days

All websites claim the site is working. So it might be a denial of service attack that prevents the webpages from loading. I started noticing slow loading of webpages a few days ago. They might be able to get their security upgraded eventually. I actually received some emails from them saying downloads were ready on June 28 and 29.
