Omegle no more

I've been wondering the same thing about Omegle. It's been weeks since it closed down, and the void is real! ???? I was on the hunt for an alternative and stumbled upon Emerald Chat. Clicked out of curiosity, and wow, the interface is pretty cool. It's become my go-to spot for something new.

Damn, sometimes I hate being proved right.

I went on Omegle quite a few times over the last ten years, some of what I saw would make your nose bleed and it affirmed my belief that evil does indeed walk this earth.

However, to say that everyone who went on there was a deviant or predator was simply not true. I met some absolutely amazing people both male and female on there in my time. I think it’s a real shame the platform’s reputation was sullied by a nefarious minority (and yes they were a minority). Sadly you had to wade through the detritus to find the diamonds in the rough.

Towards the end the moderated section was actually very sanitary with next to no cyberflashing if any. Ironically when they took down the unmoderated section this had the effect of overflowing all the creeps into the moderated section thus nullifying any safety they tried to create.

Now that Omegle is gone frankly I think the days of reckoning for the other big social media platforms is coming, I’m looking at you Snapchat, Instagram and Facebook. I can’t wait for that day.

Spoke too soon... :( a recent ban diverted me to unmoderated section which to my shock was working normally (albeit entering capatcha each time) but upon ip renewal it is now broken again. Possibly a glitch in the matrix but gives me hope

Times up for Omegle!

Given the proximity the date the unmoderated section became ‘unavailable’ to the UK Online Safety Bill coming into effect, it’s safe to assume the two events are linked.

Omegle are currently in deep sh!t with a landmark court case being brought upon them from the victim of a ped*phile who blackmailed her for elicit videos over a number of years.

There’s no doubt predators and evil people stalk Omegle for potential victims but often times they use other mainstream social media platforms to perpetrate their crimes.

The chickens have well and truly come home to roost for the platform because of the actions of an evil minority.

Pretty sure this is now permanent and only in the UK from the comments on reddit.
Omegle seem to be the ONLY website to react first to the 'UK Online Safety Bill'.
Because the section is 'unmoderated' theres no way it could fit in with the legalisation so they've just denied access.
The 'moderated' section is still working because technically its moderated for harmful content.
This 'law' is a disgrace and will ruin the internet for the UK . This will end up a shit show.

Suspect this is UK only

I suspect this is to do with the Online Safety Bill. I've tried using a VPN, like NordVPN to make it look like I was connecting from France; I never could get that to work anyway but whenever I tried it gave an "Error connecting to server. Please try again" message, and that's still happening, which suggests that the "Currently unavailable" message is restricted to the UK.

Frustrating

I really hope it’s not permanent, I’ve had some hilarious encounters and made some pretty decent friends on there. Seeing as how todays moderators seem to hand out random bans when you aren’t breaking any rules that means you’re constantly being redirected to a broken section. It’s always the few bad eggs that ruin things for everyone else

As far as i know the 'server unavailable' issue is only the UK.
The moderated video section works - which makes it suspicious.
It's either an honest system error OR the unmoderated been intentionally blocked because of police pressure.
Remember there was news articles and warnings about Omegle? Online Safety Bill?
I dont know how often Omegle is 'maintained/debugged' this *could* be permanent.

The omegle site has not been working for 12 hours.

When you enter the site on a computer it shows as if looking for a partner but nothing happens.
